Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts (LVSCM)

Literacy Volunteers of South Central Massachusetts (LVSCM) is a non-profit organization providing free, confidential, and individualized tutoring services to adults in basic literacy and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) through the use of professionally trained and supported volunteer tutors. LVSCM specializes in teaching adults with reading and English language skills below the 6th grade level. These adults have multiple learning and life challenges and cannot or will not attend classroom programs due to transportation, childcare and scheduling barriers; fear; and embarrassment or past failure in a classroom. These adults are the most in need of instruction, the hardest to reach and the hardest to serve. LVSCM has continuously provided free, student-centered tutoring to adults in the community for nearly 50 years and is the only organization in the area to provide these vital educational services.
